Long DescriptionThis fascinating book is the first volume in a projected cultural history of the United States, from the earliest English settlements to our own time. It is a history of American folkways as they have changed through time, and it argues a thesis about the importance for the United States of having been British in its cultural origins. While most people in the United States today have no British ancestors, they have assimilated regional cultures which were created by British colonists, even while preserving ethnic identities at the same time. In this sense, nearly all Americans are "Albion's Seed," no matter what their ethnicity may be. The concluding section of this remarkable book explores the ways that regional cultures have continued to dominate national politics from 1789 to 1988, and still help to shape attitudes toward education, government, gender, and violence, on which differences between American regions are greater than between European nations.

Over the past few months, we have been making some very big changes to the site. You have already seen some of the cosmetic changes but the bulk of the changes have been behind the scenes.

The biggest changes have all happened on the database side of things. We have changed the way we collect, review and display the information for each product.

Although most people won't care about the changes that happen in the background, some of those changes also come with updates to the user interface beyond simple cosmetics.

We hope to have the new version out to the public in the next few weeks and by the end of this year for sure. But we would like to offer a few users the opportunity to try out the new site in the testing environment.

Basically, we would like a few people to just play around in the test area and if something isn't working as expected, just let us know.

If this is something you might be interested in, please contact us. We will set up a user account for you and then you can test.

Just keep in mind, as people are testing, we will continue to make improvements so the test site may change a little from day to day.
