Long DescriptionThis book argues that Angola and Brazil were connected, not separated, by the Atlantic Ocean. Roquinaldo Ferreira focuses on the cultural, religious, and social impacts of the slave trade on Angola. Reconstructing biographies of Africans and merchants, he demonstrates how cross-cultural trade, identity formation, religious ties, and resistance to slaving were central to the formation of the Atlantic world. By adding to our knowledge of the slaving process, the book powerfully illustrates how Atlantic slaving transformed key African institutions, such as local regimes of forced labor that predated and coexisted with Atlantic slaving, and made them fundamental features of the Atlantic world's social fabric.

Over the past few months, we have been making some very big changes to the site. You have already seen some of the cosmetic changes but the bulk of the changes have been behind the scenes.

The biggest changes have all happened on the database side of things. We have changed the way we collect, review and display the information for each product.

Although most people won't care about the changes that happen in the background, some of those changes also come with updates to the user interface beyond simple cosmetics.

We hope to have the new version out to the public in the next few weeks and by the end of this year for sure. But we would like to offer a few users the opportunity to try out the new site in the testing environment.

Basically, we would like a few people to just play around in the test area and if something isn't working as expected, just let us know.

If this is something you might be interested in, please contact us. We will set up a user account for you and then you can test.

Just keep in mind, as people are testing, we will continue to make improvements so the test site may change a little from day to day.
