Long Description | Roddy Doyle’s acclaimed Booker Prize-nominated novel, a darker portrayal of midlife crisis and an expansively farcical chain of misadventures” ( The New York Times Book Review ) Jimmy Rabitte, Sr., is unemployed, spending his days alone and miserable. When his best friend, Bimbo, also gets laid off, they keep busy by being miserable together. Things seem to look up when they buy a decrepit fish-and-chips van and go into business, selling cheap grub to the drunk and the hungryand keeping one step ahead of the environmental health officers. Set during the heady days of Ireland’s brief, euphoric triumphs in the 1990 World Cup, The Van is a tender and hilarious tale of male friendship and family life. |

Over the past few months, we have been making some very big changes to the site. You have already seen some of the cosmetic changes but the bulk of the changes have been behind the scenes.
The biggest changes have all happened on the database side of things. We have changed the way we collect, review and display the information for each product.
Although most people won't care about the changes that happen in the background, some of those changes also come with updates to the user interface beyond simple cosmetics.
We hope to have the new version out to the public in the next few weeks and by the end of this year for sure. But we would like to offer a few users the opportunity to try out the new site in the testing environment.
Basically, we would like a few people to just play around in the test area and if something isn't working as expected, just let us know.
If this is something you might be interested in, please contact us. We will set up a user account for you and then you can test.
Just keep in mind, as people are testing, we will continue to make improvements so the test site may change a little from day to day.
